Vacation Time in Moldova

Employees in Moldova are entitled to 28 calendar days of paid leave plus paid holidays. Additional annual leave depends on the length of service.


Types of Leave in Moldova

Sick Leave:

Sick leave in Moldova includes paid leave for up to 180 days, extendable  up to 30 days in certain circumstances. The first 5 days are paid by the employer. After that, the social insurance fund covers 60% of the employee’s average monthly earnings within the last year if they have contributed to social insurance for less than 5 years. 70% of the employee’s average monthly earnings are paid if they have contributed to social insurance for 5-8 years. Anything more than 8 years calls for 90% average monthly earnings to be paid. 

Maternity Leave:

Moldova’s maternity leave regulations include 70 days’ paid leave before birth and 56 days after birth. Employees are also eligible for partially paid maternity leave until the child is 3. 

Paternity Leave:

Female employees with 2 or more children under 14 are entitled to 4 additional days paid leave. 

Unpaid Childcare Leave:

Unpaid leave is permissible for family reasons up to 60 days. Employees with 2 or more children up to 14 or disabled children up to 16 receive 14 days’ unpaid leave.

Termination & Severance in Moldova
