Sick Leave Entitlement in Lithuania
Lithuanian employees can take a maximum of 120 consecutive sick days in a given year.
If an employee exceeds the sick leave thresholds, the employment contract is subject to termination with notice.
Parental Leave in Lithuania
Maternity: Lithuania has strong paid maternity leave regulations including 70 days before birth and 56 days after birth of paid maternity leave, totalling 18 weeks.
Paternity: Paternity leave laws call for partially-paid paternity leave for 30 days after birth.
Unpaid Childcare Leave: Lithuania offers parental leave until the child is 3 years old. Parental leave is paid directly by the State Social Insurance Fund and employees receive 100% of their wages for up to 1 year. If a parent chooses to receive benefits until the child is 2; 70% of their wages are paid until the child is 1 and 40% of wages thereafter.
Annual Leave Entitlement in Lithuania
Employees in Lithuania receive a minimum of four working weeks paid leave for a five-day week and five working weeks paid leave for a six-day week.
Severance Pay Entitlement in Lithuania
Severance is provided by law and amounts to the following:
2 months salary for less than 12 months of service
5-6 months salary for more than 12 months of service
In case of unfair dismissal, the employer is liable to pay further 6 months salary as additional severance.

Termination is difficult in Lithuania. Strict procedures must be followed and reasons for termination are set out in the Labour Code.
