The typical work week in Slovakia consists of 40 hours per week or 8 hours per day. Employees can work a maximum of 48 hours per week including overtime.

Overtime is only allowed when there is a temporary increase in demand for work, or when public interest is concerned. Slovakia employees can work a maximum of 8 overtime hours per week or 150 overtime hours per year.
The typical overtime rate is 1.25 times the normal salary of the employee.
Employees in Slovakia are entitled to four working weeks of paid vacation, pro-rata, and paid holidays. Employees receive five working weeks of vacation time if they are 33 years of age or older, or if they care for a child permanently.
Employees are entitled to 1 year of paid sick leave. For the first 10 days, employees are entitled to “income compensation” provided by the employer. Starting at day 11, State social insurance backs sick pay for employees.
Slovakia has strong maternity leave regulations including 34 weeks paid maternity leave, paid by state social insurance (37 weeks for single mothers or 43 weeks if the mother has 2 or more children at birth).
Fathers are entitled to 28 weeks paid paternity leave, starting 6 weeks after birth, but only if the mother is not receiving maternity benefits. Single fathers are entitled to 31 weeks of paid paternity leave.
In Slovakia, employees are entitled to request parental leave from their employer for a minimum of 1 month until the child is 3.

The minimum severance for an employee if the termination had occurred “with notice” is 1 to 4 times the employee’s average monthly earnings, depending on the length of service.
